Word was received from Alton, Ill., that Chris Von der Ahe, former president of the St. Louis Base Ball Club, was married in that city last Thursday to Miss Kaiser. This is the magnate's third matrimonial venture, both his former wives being divorced. As Chris is out of town it is more than likely that the story is true. It will be remembered that Miss Kaiser, who was Mr. Von der Ahe's housekeeper, sued him for breach of promise and $20,000 after he married Miss Della Wells in the fall of 1896. Annie carried a large note book full of tender words Chris had bestowed upon her. Every time the base ball man told Annie he loved her she jotted it down and waited. On on occasion a big St. Bernard dog in the family bit a piece out of Annie Kaiser. She made a note of that incident in her book and treasured it up against Chris.
Remorse And Reparation.
The Kaiser trouble was settled for $3000 shortly after which Della Wells secured a divorce from Von der Ahe. Having lost two wives and one ball team, to say nothing of an electric light race track, Der Boss felt sad and lonely. He is not a very handsome man, but he does possess a loving heart. Recalling the bookful of nice things he had said to Annie Kaiser Chris was filled with tender longing to say them over again. He also thought of the dog bite, and remorse filled his soul. A few days ago Chris sought out the forsaken Annie and said he would stand for the tender passages in the book. Miss Kaiser looked into the eager visage of Der Boss and saw love written there. And so they went to Alton, Ill., and were married.
