To-day the St. Louis ball team will go into training at Sportsman's Park, under the watchful eye of Manager Dowd. Donahue, Kissinger and Dowd are the only three of the team in the city at present, but the others will float in to-day and to-morrow. On Sunday, March 28, the preliminary season will be inaugurated with a game between the regulars and ponies. Beginning April 10, the Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Detroit and St. Paul teams will play here in succession. Paul Stanton, a local catcher with a good reputation, was signed by Dowd to-day.

I can't find any information on Paul Stanton. No hits at B-Ref. Nothing in Major League Baseball Profiles. Nothing on Google. It certainly appears that he never played in the major leagues and was probably just signed as a depth player during training camp.
