Virginia, Cass county, has a female base ball club.

I know that there was a female club in Springfield in 1875 and it's likely that that club influenced the formation of the Virginia club. Also, I find it interesting that we had female clubs in the Sangamon River valley. There was a ball-playing culture in the area dating back to the 1820s and there is some evidence that these early bat and ball traditions included female or co-ed play. I'm not sure what relationship there is between these early traditions of female play and the formation of female clubs but I would think that in areas where you had female or co-ed play, it would be more likely that female clubs would form.
