We learn that arrangements have been made for all the principal base ball clubs throughout the country to visit the city during the present summer. They will appear at intervals of about two weeks. The Atlantics, Athletics and Nationals are among the number.

This was one of the reasons that the big Eastern clubs were coming to St. Louis in 1868. The Unions and the Empires wanted to test themselves against the best clubs in the country. They wanted to compete at the highest level of the sport.
